Description
Set off from our shop and cycle along the sweeping Hawke’s Bay coastline, past the Atea A Rangi Star Compass and through the Clive coastal wetlands toward the Tukituki River vineyards.
The route offers scenic views of iconic Cape Kidnappers and Te Mata Peak, with diverse bird life around the estuary landscapes.
There are great options to stop for wine tastings and a meal at local cellar doors, before a return shuttle takes you back to Napier from Black Barn Winery.
Logistics
- Distance – 28km ~2.5 hours of easy cycling
- Depart – start between 9.00am–11.30am (the route starts across the road from our store)
- Return – shuttle leaves at 4pm from Black Barn Winery back to Napier (20-30 minutes drive)

- Askerne – open Monday – Sunday, wine tasting, picnic lunch, booking recommended
- Craggy Range – requires 5km detour over a hill, open Monday – Sunday, cellar door and restaurant, booking essential
- Te Mata Estate – open Monday – Saturday (winter hours), wine tasting only
- Black Barn – open Monday – Sunday, cellar door and restaurant (Wed-Sun), booking recommended
- Village Vineyards – closed for winter, cellar door, sharing plates, booking recommended

Wineries have varying opening times by season; we try our best to advise up-to-date opening times on the day but cannot guarantee availability or unexpected closure.
Lunch and wine tasting booking is recommended, especially during summer and busy weekends.

- Your bikes will be available from store opening.
- We’ll set up seat height to your liking, provide safety briefing and explain the route.
- Return shuttle departs Black Barn Winery at 4:00pm to Napier (20-30 minutes drive).

- Riders below 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
- E‑bikes fit riders with a minimum height of 140cm.
- Bookings for lunch and tastings are recommended and essential on weekends.
- Wineries have varying opening times by season; we will advise which wineries are expected to be open on the day but cannot guarantee availability or unexpected closure.
- Most people take around 2 hours 30 minutes to cycle the route; allow at least 30 minutes for tastings and at least 1 hour for lunch.

All cruise passengers are transported on free shuttle bus from Napier Port to Napier Visitors Centre (5 minutes ride). We are located right across the road.
